The Baby Lab

Welcome to the Baby Lab

under the supervision of Ursula Krentz, PhD

The work of this lab is to explore the wonders of infant development

Why are babies so interesting?

Studying the behavior of infants provides us with a way to explore the factors that contribute to how we become who we are as adults.

By observing babies, we can glimpse at human behavior in its earliest forms, helping us to attempt to answer some of life’s biggest mysteries:

  • What are the contributions of nature vs. nurture on development?
  • How do certain behaviors and characteristic develop?
  • What behaviors and characteristics are universal among humans, and which are unique?
  • What does a risky trajectory of development look like?
  • What does a resilient developmental trajectory look like?
  • How can work towards supporting infants and parents in this vulnerable time of life?
  • How does early attachment quality and the nature of early relationships shape our social and emotional health?
