MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY

Openness, respect, curiosity, accountability, and a holistic view of clinical care – these are the guiding values of Seattle Pacific University’s Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) master’s degree program. This program provides high-quality education and rigorous professional training in a distinctly Christian context. It equips graduates to provide professional services as marriage and family therapists and to be effective participants in the dynamic health care environment.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) recognizes five core mental health disciplines, and one of the fastest-growing is marriage and family therapy. Keeping pace with this demand, Seattle Pacific’s MFT students are trained through academic coursework and supervised clinical practice in a seven-quarter practicum sequence. Courses focus on the development of the self of the therapist through the integration of theory, research, and practice – all within social-ecological and systemic perspectives, guided by foundational Christian principles.
