Initiative for Individuals

with Intellectual and

Developmental Disabilities

 

Broad Mission

Enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families by:


  • Addressing the psychological, social and emotional well-being of these individuals
  • Using a life span perspective to address important issues from birth through adulthood
  • Conceptualizing all individuals from a holistic perspective which includes biological, psychological, social and spiritual processes

Primary Goals

  • Train and support professionals to work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families
  • Support research related to the psychological, social and emotional well-being of these individuals
  • Educate the SPU and local communities regarding challenges faced by these individuals and their families
  • Serve as a catalyst for a national forum for professionals, paraprofessionals and lay advocates for dialogue and training
