CLINIC PROGRAM TRAINING MODEL
This Ph.D. program provides training in professional psychology in accordance with the Local Clinical Scientist (LCS) model of doctoral education. Described in the article "The local clinical scientist: a bridge between science and practice" (American Psychologist, Stricker & Trierweiler, 1995), the Local Clinical Scientist model extends the scientific and professional ideals in the original Boulder Scientist-Practitioner (BSP) model of clinical psychology (Raimy, 1950).
The program encompasses broad scientific concepts while integrating the art of clinical practice. The Clinical Psychology program includes the core competencies outlined by the National Council of Schools and Program of Professional Psychology (NCSPP).
The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program at Seattle Pacific University has earned Accreditation from the American Psychological Association. The formal date of our accreditation corresponds to the APA Site Visit at Seattle Pacific University, which was conducted in October 2006. Further, we are delighted to let you know that the APA Committee on Accreditation voted to award approval for seven years. The CoA specifies time periods of accreditation for three to seven years (between renewal site visits); we are proud to be awarded the maximum duration for approval.
The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at Seattle Pacific University meets the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards/National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology Guidelines for Defining "Doctoral Degree in Psychology." Therefore, graduates of this designated program who decide to apply for licensure as psychologist typically meet the educational requirements for licensing in the United States and Canada. However, in each jurisdiction there are additional requirements that must be satisfied. For exact information, clinical psychology applicants should contact the state or provincial licensing board in the jurisdiction in which they plan to apply.
