EDCN 5986 Supporting Content-Area Literacy with Technology (3 credits)

Drawing on concepts of universal design and flexible curriculum access, this course offers up-to-the minute technology to make content literacy strategies more engaging and responsive to the students' diverse learning needs. The evidence-based procedures, explicit instruction strategies, and authentic activities guide teachers to integrate curriculum with English/language arts, social studies, science, and math content literacy. The course framework enables teachers to adapt the plan to their classroom resources and requirements, reducing the barriers to learning and increasing student achievement.

EDCT 5255 Introduction to Electronic Portfolios in K-12 Education (3 credits)

This class will provide an overview of student-centered electronic learning portfolios that also support classroom-based formative assessment for learning. Emphasis will be on how teachers can support students of all ages to use desktop, laptop, or mobile devices, focusing on (mostly free) Web 2.0 tools, to: capture and store digital evidence; reflect on learning; give and receive feedback; plan and set goals; collaborate; showcase selected work; and evaluate online portfolios.

EDTE 5174 Making the Best Use of Internet Resources for K-12 Instruction (5 credits)

Please see computer prerequisite D in the registration information for minimum computer requirements. This unique course is designed for busy educators and offers maximum flexibility and personal support from instructor Frank Odasz in a mastery learning format. Participants have one year to complete eight five-hour lessons and a ten-hour final project to receive their five quarter graded recertification credits. EDTE 5489 Powerful Presentations With PowerPoint (5 credits)

Prerequisite: Participants must have access to Microsoft PowerPoint in order to take this class. Teaches participants how to make powerful electronic presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Equips students to present content with a professional appearance using a minimal amount of effort. Acquaints participants with the components of PowerPoint such as text, graphs, 3-D objects and animation through a step-by-step process.

EDTE 5495 Digital Photography Camp I (2 credits)

Gives participants a chance to learn how to use digital cameras to their potential in education. Familiarizes participants with the camera's manual settings and special functions. Explores concepts unique to digital photography, such as resolution and file size. Surveys the endless possibilities of Photoshop Elements and other programs to download, enhance, retouch, crop, remove red eye, and print images. Explains how to create slide shows, PowerPoint slides, and movies from pictures. May be repeated for credit 1 time. Equivalent: CEU 2531.

EDTE 5717 Technology in Schools: A Balanced Perspective (2 credits)

Discusses the challenges and benefits of incorporating technology into instruction. Shares engaging and meaningful ways to encourage proper technology integration in schools and explores ways to work toward increasing access for all students. EDTE 5856 iMovie: Digital Video in the Classroom (2 credits)

Enables participants to bring learning to life using digital video in the classroom. Explains how to use digital video as an instructional tool for school projects and provides practical ideas that will be immediately applicable in the classroom. Explores how to create dazzling movies, complete with special effects, voice-overs, music scores, transitions, titles, credits, and more. Through a variety of hands-on activites, educators will learn how to work with digital video cameras and create and edit movies with iMovie, Apple's breakthrough digital video editing software. Access to a digital video camera and Macintosh computer with a FireWire port and Apples's iMovie software is required for this class. It is also recommended that participants have 2GB of free hard disk space as well as a high speed Internet connection. This course is correlated with the national ISTE NETS (National Educational Technology Standards) and the No Child Left Behind Act.

Moodle is the leading Open Source learning management system and can be used to deliver online courses or to supplement traditional face-to-face courses. It enables participants to extend the classroom beyond its physical boundaries, and develop dynamic course content that can be accessed over the Internet by students anywhere at any time. In this hands-on course, educators will learn how to use Moodle's features to create an engaging collaborative online learning community for the classroom.

EDTE 5866 SBI Tech Camp:Content Creation with SMART Tools for K-12 Teachers (1 credit)

Participants will engage in content creation that will directly support their respective instructional programs. Participants will attend workshops that focus on specific skills and features of the SMART Board, SMART Slate, SMART Response and Notebook software that will support their creation of new content, lessons, activities and tools that can be used during the school year.

EDTE 5867 mClass: DIBELS Next Product Training: Assess to Inform Instruction (1 credit)

This course prepares participants to successfully administer the mCLASS:DIBELS Next assessment. Introduces DIBELS and the mCLASS platform. Focuses on each of the DIBELS measures. Through a scaffolded series of activities, participants learn how to administer the measure as well as analyze assessment results to determine appropriate instruction. Also covers progress monitoring and analysis of web reports, respectively. Finally, the course takes users through the steps required to set up and manage classes on mCLASS:Home. Equivalent: CEU 3447.
