Assists participants in developing a professional portfolio. Reviews literature on professional development, professional portfolios and the collaborative process of peer coaching. Facilitates peer coaching and collaborative work.

EDCN 5591 Book Study: Professional Development for School Improvement - Empowering Learning Communities (5 credits)

Integrates knowledge from professional development and school improvement to describe frameworks that can increase the capacity of individuals, teams, and organizations to grow and develop. Both professional development and school improvement should have the primary purpose of teaching and learning. Presents eleven frameworks for professional development, along with strategies for integrating multiple frameworks in comprehensive programs. Includes the following strategies: training, peer coaching, collaborative work teams, co-teaching, study groups, action research, teacher writing, teacher leadership, partnerships, networks, and teacher centers. Equivalent: CEU 2803.

EDCN 5634 Book Study: The Leadership Assignment - Creating Change (5 credits)

Designed for leaders who want to become change agents, who want to create constructive change and order, this course explores the following eight change principles: prepare to lead change; knowledge is power; create empowering mental models; overcome resistance to change; lead change; accelerate the change process; manage stress and promote acceptance of change; organizational renewal is perpetual change. Case studies are used to create themes around each of the eight change principles.
