| This course puts formative assessment within the context of active learning, including pupil engagement, effective dialogue, and reflective thinking. It provides practical advice and examples from the early years through secondary. Formative assessment enables students to become involved in all learning and assessment processes, and the course provides explanations and classroom examples that exemplify effective learning objectives, clear success criteria, talk partner techniques, effective questioning, quality discussion with pupils, and self-a-peer evaluation of work. Themes include how to develop a 'growth mindset' so students enjoy challenge rather than fear of failure, 'thinking skills', and 'building learning power'. Educators learn how to set up an action research 'learning team' in an individual school, a cluster of schools, or any other educational setting. |
