Andrew Lumpe, Ph.D. (Chair)

Dr. Lumpe earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University and previously held academic appointments at the University of Toledo and Southern Illinois University. During his professional career, he served as a secondary science teacher, district Curriculum Director and school board President. His research publications focus on science teaching and learning, professional development, and teacher leadership. He has book chapters published by Academic Press and the National Science Teachers Association and his articles appeared in multiple journals including the Journal of Science Teacher Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, School Science and Mathematics, and Journal of Research on Technology in Education. He has directed and evaluated numerous externally funded grant projects from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, and various state agencies.

Greg Fritzberg, Ph.D.

Arriving as an Associate Professor of Education at Seattle Pacific University in 2001, Dr. Fritzberg holds a Master's in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. A former youth minister and teacher at Renton Alternative School, Dr. Fritzberg served as editor of Curriculum in Context between 2001 and 2006. He is the author of In the Shadow of "Excellence": Recovering a Vision of Educational Opportunity For All (Caddo Gap Press, 1999) as well as articles in such journals and magazines as The Urban Review, Educational Foundations, Teacher Education Quarterly, the Journal of Education, Educational Leadership and Administration, Journal of Thought, Multicultural Education, and Sojourners.

Kristine Gritter, Ph.D.

Dr. Gritter brings her research interests in adolescent literacy and urban education to the university. She earned a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a specialization in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy. Prior to her graduate work, Kristine taught at the middle school level for ten years in diverse classrooms. Kristine's current research examines sociocultural aspects of middle school oral reading fluency and student identity.

Nyaradzo Mvududu, Ed.D.

Dr. Nyaradzo Mvududu is an assistant professor in Curriculum and Instruction. Her primary instructional duties are in the areas of statistics and multicultural issues. She earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle Pacific University. Her research and publications focus on statistics instruction and learning, learning environments and multicultural education.

William Nagy, Ph.D.

Dr. Nagy is an internationally known expert in vocabulary acquisition and instruction, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters. William received his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of California, San Diego, and has been a professor at Seattle Pacific since 1996. His interests include the role of vocabulary in first- and second-language reading, morphological awareness, and the contributions of metalinguistic awareness to reading achievement.

Richard Scheuerman, Ph.D.

Dr. Scheuerman is chair of the MAT program and came to SPU in 2004 following twenty-five year years in public education where he served as an elementary and secondary teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent. He received the 2000 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence and the WSASCD Award for Educational Improvement at the State Level. He earned degrees from Washington State University, Pacific Lutheran University, and Gonzaga University.
