International Education Scholar Speaks on Spiritual Development in Public Schools

Seattle, WA - Dr. Julian Stern, dean of education and theology at York St John University in York, England, presented two lectures at Seattle Pacific University about children’s spiritual development in public schools. His lecture on Wednesday, February 11, was titled “The Spirit of the School: Why and How Public Schools Help Children’s Spiritual Development.” His second lecture on Wednesday, February 18, was titled “Spirited Professionalism: Professional Approaches to Spiritual Development by Counselors and Other Educators in Public School.”

Stern spent 14 years as a school teacher in the south of England and is author of 11 books and several dozen articles. Recent books include Schools and Religions: Imagining the Real (2007), Teaching Religious Education: Researchers in the Classroom (2006), and Involving Parents (2003).

Principal's Certificate / Program Administrator's Certificate

SPU’s Educational Leadership department offers courses leading to either a PK–12 Principal’s Certificate or a Program Administrator Certificate. Both administrative certification programs are 30 credits in length and are offered at four sites: in Seattle at SPU, Bremerton, Stanwood, and Olympia.
