Janet,
Just for context, Elonna is on vacation, Amy is sick and Kim Karstens is off campus today so I am flying solo on this exercise. I know this could be reality when an event strikes, but I sure hope not! They were all here on 4-29-09.
In working through this exercise, and reviewing the inventory in the shipping container on Nickerson behind the Walls Advancement Center, the food supplies assembled in Sep 2008 were based on the premise that Gwinn would survive an earthquake and be operational. Thus there are no “ready to eat” supplies stored there. There would be the normal retail inventory in the C-store. However, access is restricted until the structural assessment. It is my opinion that the structural assessment priority needs to be revisited placing Gwinn first. This is based on the perspective that the need to feed is a higher priority than the need to house. At least that is the case with the timing of this event.
The water that is stored in the shipping container is in 17oz bottles and thus can be easily distributed. The movement of the water requires the involvement of Facilities staff and a forklift. John Mansfield worked with Lance and me on this project in Sep 2008. The distribution of the water would be done from pallets at locations identified through Safety & Security and the BECs where the largest groups of people are located. Each location can be staffed from OUS staff (including Mailing Services)and Sodexo retail staff on campus.
Elonna Visser would be the person to contact alternative locations for lodging. That task in the HMP Disaster Response document and a representative of the Marriott Courtyard is listed in the HMP emergency contacts list. At this time I do not know what arrangements are in place for approval of the expense.
Conference Services has an inventory of bed linens, blankets and pillows, however, they will need access to Ashton, Hill and Emerson to retrieve the supplies. Ann and Kyara will coordinate this and they can gather student volunteers from the Hill students assembled on 6th Ave W beside the OUS assembly point.
