Perkins Center Msg 1 Response

Point of Contact: Tali Hairston

CSOT Department/Area: Center for Worship

In  DH we immediately took shelter under the desk and in the doorway. After the shaking we assisted staff, faculty, and students with the immediate evacuation of the building and gathered at the evacuation location as directed by the BEC’s with the emergency binder/contact information. At this point I am responsible to head to the evacuation site for the Perkins Center and begin strategizing with Owen Sallee and Caenisha Warren. They have evacuated down the stairwell with the emergency supplies and binder, and are now located in one of two locations, the Loop or Ross Lot. Having connected with them, I am aware of injuries or missing staff and students. One staff person is not on campus (Nikkita Oliver) and she knows not to report to campus until further notice in the event of an earthquake. A report has already been given to the BEC’s. We begin addressing any injuries by comforting and calming students encouraging them to stay put until further notice.

We await further instructions for immediate safety concerns.

We have no students off campus and all staff are on campus working. There are no students abroad either.

All off-campus students ministries or service projects are canceled.

We attempt to connect with our families knowing we sufficient cell phone service and we cannot enter buildings for landline service.

In the next one to two hours we are most concerned with assisting injured students and calming the non-injured.

Within this two hour period we attempt to establish contact with our families using our cell phones.
