Thanks Jean. A follow up question for you … how will Safety and Security know where the first aid station is located?  Various departments are talking about referring injured to the first aid station …. And as time passes on, this question is being raised by others.

Thanks for sharing where you would locate the first aid station at 9:00 AM on this day in this exercise and how you’d communicate this to others  …. Currently, all buildings remain closed at this point in time.

The disaster plan has the Health Center as primary first aid but will need facilities approval to re enter the build my assumption is that facilities is keeping security updated.Secondary site is weter, third is 3rd floor gwinn.

At check in with BEC will note first aid capabilities for relay to other BEC and security.

Jean,

According to SPU plans – if all buildings are impacted and no one is allowed back in until structural engineers have reviewed/approved the building for occupancy, then the Health Center going to be out of action for quite awhile.  Currently, the building priority is 1) Ashton, 2) Emerson 3) Gwinn, 4) Hill, 5) Moyer.  So with this in mind …. And knowing that by 9:00 AM the structural engineers have not yet arrived (and we’re not sure when they will .. . this comes out later in the exercise)… what would you do?  You know a location is needed as people are being referred to you … where to you set up outside?  What do you need until Gwinn becomes available?

With our grab and go bags we can operate without a building so would look at evacuation site ie tiffany loop or streetscape as temporary site. Our bags are packed with supplies and the items we would need immediately and items we might need for an extended temporary site.

Would need a visible sign to let people know where we are located if technical communication is less than ideal.

Thanks Jean – this is a reasonable solution.  How will you get this message up to Safety and Security?  If you did not bring paper with you from the building (and marking pens), you don’t have materials to make sign which can be viewed at a distance.  So perhaps it’s getting the message out to S&S and BEC’s … how will this happen?

Each grab and go bag has duct tape, safety pins, paper, marking pens and regular pens as notes will need to be made on the injured. We also have a runner if communication is not possible with radio, cell phone, email or texting. We may need to use one of the standards that hold the banners around campus to get the sign visible.

Thanks Jean --- if the standards are the building, they will be inaccessible.  So signage is going to be a problem …

No the standards are the poles that hang the fabric or canvas banners that advertise the things that SPU is doing. There are several in the loop and several on the streetscape as well as martin square and the parking lots.
