FPM Msg 3 Response

Point of Contact: Dave Church

CSOT Department/Area: FPM

Current Status:

  •  Field Station has been set up and activated as previously reported.
  • We have met with our staff and none are missing. We previously reported this in a prior message..
  • Yes we have a plan to address working in the field and outside in the hot, cold, and wet NW weather.
  • FPM staff (ten teams of two) are in the field performing exterior assessments on 45 buildings and calling reports into the Field Station where they are being logged in.  John Mansfield is updating me on status as the exterior assessments are being called in.
  • So far 10 buildings have been screened by FPM staff.  They are the WAC, FOC, Weter, Library, SBE Center House, Bookstore Annex, SUB, Science, Bank/Bookstore, Gym.  Note:  (1) The FPM staff are deliberately being sent to buildings other than those that will be screened by the structural engineers. (2) The FPM staff for the purposes of this drill were directed to areas of campus and buildings where they could practice building assessments without impacting program. Normally we would focus on higher value buildings first.  But we wanted to test drive our new draft screening field guide and plan during this drill without alarming anyone or attracting much attention.
  • All of the buildings screened so far have varying levels of visible damage and are being yellow and red tagged.  This means that they will be closed until they can be repaired and/or cleared by a licensed structural engineer.
  •  All requests for building re-entry are being denied at this time.

Explosion:

An explosion has been reported (by Security) in the vicinity of Emerson Hall.  John Mansfield has dispatched 2 Facilities staff to investigate.  It has been reported that Peterson, Marston/Watson, Moyer, and the Library have lost power.  Moyer and the Library have generators that are working and providing emergency egress lighting.  The CIS backup generator is also up and running at this time.  Seattle City Light has been contacted.  We are waiting to hear a response time from our customer service representative.  The Moyer Chiller which provides cooling for CIS spaces is down.  Based on past experiences CIS servers will be in a room with temp’s in the 90-100 degrees F within 30 minutes.  It will be 5 to 8 hours  after the structural engineers arrive on campus before Marston can be structurally evaluated.  This is due to the highest priority for evaluation being placed on housing and food service facilities.  Loss of day light will slow assessment progress.  Our first opportunity for structural assessment and potential entry into Marston will not be able to occur (assuming the engineers approve this) until the beginning of day 2.
