A CSOT EXERCISE IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND RECOVERY

HOME   |

Message 1: 04.29.2009 @ 8:40am

It is approximately 8:40am on Wednesday April 29th, 2009. It is a mild, warm weather day during Spring Quarter. University Ministries has Group scheduled for 7pm and there are several athletic events planned for the weekend. It is two days until payday for employees, one week for student workers. Students are in classes and employees are settling into their routines.

Suddenly, severe ground shaking takes place for approximately 30-45 seconds. The light fixtures and false ceiling collapse in several rooms. Books fall from bookcases and you can hear glass breaking. As the shaking stops, you find that some employees have minor injuries consisting of cuts and bruises from falling objects.

As a CSOT member, you know that the Building Emergency Coordinators will lead a campus-wide evacuation. You assist others in your area to your building's evacuation location.

Many people are scared and trying to use their cell phones to contact family and friends.

Reminders

  • Once the immediate danger has passed, ECMT members will report to the Emergency Operations Center at the Office of Safety & Security. Once ECMT meets, they may call other CSOT or CT members as well as deans or directors to join them in the EOC. Several CSOT members also sit on the ECMT. Consider where you will be and how it will affect your department’s response in the field.

  • What affect does this event occurring on April 29th, 2009 have on your operations? Consider what events are scheduled for this day and the upcoming weekend/weeks. Review the Campus Master Calendar for April and May 2009.

What now?*
