All SBE majors (Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics) must meet the Writing Competency Requirement listed below:

1. SBE majors with a score of 5 or 6 on the English Placement exam will satisfy the Writing Competency Requirement and will not be required to complete the extra writing requirements discussed below. Also, these students are not required to take ENG 2201 Intermediate College Writing.
   
   
2. SBE majors (and other SPU) students with a score of 4 or below on the English Placement exam are required to take ENG 2201. These students would need to take ENG 2201 by the first quarter of their sophomore year so they could be considered for admission to an SBE major during winter quarter of their sophomore year. Students with a grade of B+ or better in ENG 2201 will satisfy the Writing Competency Requirement.
   
   
3. SBE majors with a grade of B or below in ENG 2201 will need to take BUS 0610, Business Writing Tutorial, and earn a grade of B+ or better in this course.
   
   
4. Transfer students who have previously taken a college composition class will meet the requirement if they have a B+ or better grade for the composition class. Otherwise, they will need to meet the requirement as listed in point 3 above.
   
   
5. Transfer students who have not previously taken a college composition class need to take the English Placement test, the same as freshmen, so they will need to meet the same requirements outlined above for freshmen.

Note: This writing competency requirement took effect for freshmen who entered SPU beginning Autumn 2004 and for transfer students who will enter SPU beginning Autumn 2005.
