On the Guatemala trip, students will live with host families, study with SPU faculty, study Spanish language in a one-on-one immersion setting, and also fulfill their internship requirement.  The Guatemala trip will offer BUS 3615 International Organizational Behavior with SBE management professor Dr. Denise Daniels, which students can take in lieu of BUS 3614.  If students have already taken Organizational Behavior, they can take a Natural Science B course with SPU's Dr. John Lindberg, looking at earth systems instead.  During the term, students can complete their SPU language competency requirement, and those who are pursuing the international business concentration will fulfill their second year language requirement on the trip.  Finally, all students will have the opportunity to fulfill their internship experience, or apply these credits toward upper division business elective credits. Learn more here or get more details from Dr. Daniels.

Registration and Advising
words from Elizabeth Gordon

SBE Undergraduate Services Supervisor

Registration Week

FACULTY ADVISOR HOLDS? I cannot remove Faculty Advisor Holds. Please contact your Faculty Advisor and work with them to form a schedule for next quarter. They will remove the hold upon your schedule completion.

BUSINESS/ECONOMICS/ENTREPRENEURSHIP MINOR: Although required for completion of your minor, many of our courses have “major-restrictions”. Prior to registering for these courses you will need to contact me and request the removal of major restriction holds. Please email me at eg@spu.edu, as soon as you have made your schedule. Do your best not to wait until your registration time, or it may delay your ability to get into the classes you need. If you are not formally admitted to one of our minors, please apply online through the SBE website first.

FRESHMEN: Make sure you’ve got one of our core courses in your schedule for next quarter. This could be Microeconomics (ECN 2101), Macroeconomics (ECN 2102), Financial Accounting (ACCT 2361), Managerial Accounting (ACCT 2362), or Legal Environment of Business (BUS 2414). If you have room, consider adding a 1 or 2 credit course on top of that, like Spreadsheets (CSC 1123), Managerial Communication (BUS 2600), or Internship and Career Strategies (BUS 2910).

SOPHOMORES: Congratulations if you were admitted to the program this year. Please continue to meet with your Faculty Advisor to ensure your timely progress through SBE. If you were not admitted and are still listed as “intended”, please work with your faculty advisor to come up with a plan of attack. It may mean re-taking a class or two.

JUNIORS:  If you’ve been admitted to SBE, you should be on autopilot by now. Make sure you’ve completed the pre-Internship course (BUS 2910), and be on the look-out for internship opportunities! Now is also the time to start thinking about what concentration (if any) you’d like to complete, and start making headway. If you intend to graduate within the next four quarters, please login to your Banner account and apply to graduate today!

SENIORS: Have you completed your internship experience? Then it’s probably time to register for BUS 4942 Internship Reflection and Professional Development. Here’s how: Complete the Internship Course Approval Form and be sure to obtain your Internship Supervisor’s signature. Return the form to Christina McCracken’s office (SUB 2nd) for her signature. Once SBE has received word from the Center for Career and Calling that you have permission to register for BUS 4942, Elizabeth Gordon will remove the registration restriction on the course, allowing you to register as usual through your Banner account.

Returning Majors, Update your SBE Scholarship Data:  Each spring, SBE makes a number of undergraduate scholarship awards. In recent years, scholarship application data has been collected from each student at the time they apply to a major in SBE. Students who were admitted prior to this year may wish at this time to update their scholarship application data by completing this convenient online form. Not doing so will not keep one from being considered for an SBE scholarship, however, the additional information may be helpful to the Undergraduate Committee. The deadline for updating your SBE scholarship application data is February 20th.
