Developing students of "competence and character" is central to the work of Seattle Pacific University. In the School of Business and Economics we teach what we've described as "another way of doing business." These themes come together in the Center for Integrity in Business. Here is our summary of the Center's purpose and goals.

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Integrity in Business (CIB) is to conduct research and advocacy that promotes the philosophy of business as service to the community.  Specifically, the CIB coordinates research into alternate models of ethical and theologically-grounded business practices.  The Center works with business, non-profit and academic communities based on these models and other aspects of ethical, values-based business leadership.

The CIB advances its mission by:

  • Engaging business, non-profit and academic communities (Christian and non-Christian, alike) in a serious dialogue about the definition and impact of practicing business grounded in a Christian worldview;Encouraging individuals and organizations to implement ethical, values-based strategies, structures and practices; and

  • Promoting research about organizations and leadership rooted in a Christian vision.

The Center serves as a catalyst within the School of Business and Economics (SBE) to promote the overarching vision of Another Way of Doing Business, an alternative to the traditional approach of the purpose of business as the maximization of shareholder value.  Under this alternative model, SBE sees the highest purpose of business as service — serving customers and communities by providing them the goods and services they need to flourish, and serving employees by providing opportunities for meaningful work and self expression.  The CIB also functions as a host and advocate for similar initiatives by partnering with other leading organizations across the country and around the globe.
