Does the University ever make exceptions to academic policies?
Academic policy is approved by a faculty committee—UPEC (the Undergraduate Policies and Evaluation Committee). Once matriculated, students are expected to fulfill all degree requirements listed in the SPU Undergraduate Catalog and Graduate Catalog . You may employ the academic petition process if you want to request a variance from stated policy regarding major requirements or other academic policies due to unusual circumstances.

Academic Petition Forms are available at http://www.spu.edu/depts/sas/sasforms.html . The academic petition process and procedures for filling a petition are outlined on this form.

Because the petition process involves several steps, academic petition forms should be submitted at least one quarter before action is needed. Notification of approval or denial of your petition will be sent by mail.
