2010-2011 Housing Sign-Up

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR RESIDENCE HALLS

Who can live in the residence halls? Students who were first-time freshmen in Autumn Quarter 2010 and are entering their second year. Students serving in leadership positions (PAs, SMCs, RHMCs, and Hall Council Executives) and their roommates are also eligible. Due to the size of the incoming class for Autumn Quarter 2011, transfer students and third- or fourth-year continuing students may sign up for the apart¬ments only. A list of students eligible for the halls will be available at spu.edu/HallEligibility on April 18.

Where do I sign up? All sign-up events for the residence halls are held in Upper Gwinn. Singles, quads, and triples are reserved on May 17; doubles on May 24 — see Sign-up Schedule (PDF).

When to be there. The time you arrive depends on the type of room you wish to reserve (single, double, etc.) and the category into which you fall (changing rooms on your floor, changing floors in your hall, etc.). For triples and quads, at least two residents in your group must qualify for the category to sign up in that time slot. For doubles, both residents returning to the floor will have priority; otherwise, one resident must qualify for the category to sign-up in that time slot. You and your roommate(s) must arrive by the starting time noted for your category. If you arrive after that time, you will be included in the next category.

Choosing order. Within each category, roommate groups will choose rooms in order of total seniority points (see Seniority Points). If a tie occurs, a drawing will decide who chooses next.

Required paperwork. You will receive a Residential Student Guidebook and complete a Room and Meal Plan Contract on the night you sign up. The Contract and Guidebook together form a legal and binding agreement, so read both documents thoroughly to understand the terms of your residency at SPU. If you cancel your contract after reserving a room, you will forfeit your $300 housing deposit (which you paid when you first applied for housing).

The fine print. You must fill each space in the room you are reserving with an eligible student. Once you reserve a room, you may not sign up for another room.

SELECTED LEADERSHIP GROUPS

Students serving in leadership positions and their roommates are eligible for the residence halls regardless of their year in school.

Future RHMCs and Executive Hall Council members. If you choose not to sign up on your current floor, you will be able to sign up ahead of students changing floors or halls (see Sign-Up Schedule PDF).

Future PAs. Your rooms are already reserved. You will complete housing paperwork at a PA education class. If you are a PA in the campus apartments and plan to have a roommate, his or her paperwork is due at the same time.

Future SMCs. Your rooms are also reserved. You and your roommate must complete a Room and Meal Plan Contract in OUS by 5 p.m. on April 29. If you do not have a roommate, Housing Services will match you with a returning resident or new student during the summer assignment process, and you will be notified of your roommate in late July.
