VACUUM MAINTENANCE:
  • For vacuum bags fill out a green request card
  • All vacuums need to have bags in them to work properly and prevent damage
  • The PA is responsible for knowing where the vacuum is at all times
  • Vacuums must be stored in a locked room and can only be checked out to students
  • Spare vacuums are available if needed
  • Check Vacuum Cord Often!
  • Damaged cords must be reported to plant/Housekeeping due to danger of a possible electric shock
  • Please remember to tell the residents not to run over the vacuum cords, because it weakens protective coasting around the electrical wires
  • When lifting the vacuum, use the designated holding areas
  • The vacuum brush should be checked regularly and be kept clear of debris, i.e. hair, rubber bands, floss, etc…
  • As a good rule of thumb, items picked up by the vacuum should not be larger than a nickel
  • The vacuum should not be used to pick up Liquid!
  • For optimal vacuum performance, the vacuum should be cleaned on a monthly basis. This would include:
    • Cutting out hair from brush
    • Checking hose for blockage
    • Changing vacuum bags when they are ¾ full
  • Residence Halls receive Sensor vacuums (Blue) and all other campus houses and apartments receive Royal vacuums (Grey), with the exception of a couple locations
VACUUM TROUBLESHOOTING:
  • If vacuum suction pressure is low, the things to check are: items lodged in the hose. The hose can be removed and unclogged by using a broom handle or something similar. You should also check the vacuum bag to see if it needs to be replaced.
  • If the vacuum starts to smoke ot smell like something is burning, check to see if the brush is spinning while the vacuum is on
  • If the brush is not spinning check for debris that could be preventing it from doing so
  • If nothing is found, please let Housekeeping know immediately by filling out a green request slip **
**Give Housekeeping Services enough notice to send a vacuum for repairs if the end of a quarter is near. A good frame of reference would be to check the vacuums 3 weeks before the end of each quarter for damage or repairs needed of any type. This way it will ensure that the vacuum will be available for end of the quarter cleaning.
