Building Maintenance

Building Maintenance employs a staff trained in every principal trade required for facilities maintenance, repair, and alteration. In addition, the staff can respond to urgent or specialized needs and provide continuity for basic maintenance and repair programs. Requests for services may be made through our online work order system, iService Desk (tma.spu.edu) Our services range through all of the trades areas: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, engineering, welding, fabrication, and locksmith. Our department is also responsible for the upkeep of the campus motorpool fleet which includes the rental fleet, executive vehicles, maintenance fleet, and campus generators. If you need a delivery and/or setup for an event our department can provide services to meet that need also. Requests for this type of service should also be submitted via the online work order system. Contracted services are a large part of how the building maintenance department keeps the university functioning at a level that allows quality learning and living to take place. SPU has partnered with local service providers including: Enviromech, ThyssenKrupp Elevator, Safeguard Pest Control, ATS Building Systems, ABSCO Alarms, and others to achieve success.

Housekeeping

The SPU campus is cleaned by a dedicated group of in-house and contracted staff members. The residence hall system is cleaned with in-house staff. These in-house staff hire, train, and supervise approximately 50 SPU students in their cleaning effort. This allows the residence halls to be maintained at a high standard while providing needed employment to our students. The main campus buildings are cleaned with contracted housekeeping companies. These contracted services provide a cost effective way for the campus to be cleaned each night and ready for the next day of classes or conferences. These partnerships include: SBS of America, All the Bases, and COIT Services.

Grounds

The SPU grounds are a recognized landmark in the Seattle community. Our gardens have won the prestigious Gardens of Distinction award from the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals. From formal gardens to The Tiffany Loop there is great pride in the way that our campus looks throughout the year. The SPU arboretum boasts some of the most significant trees in the Seattle area including the largest Boliana Popular, some of the largest California Valley Oaks outside of California and the largest American Elms and one Wych Elm in the Seattle area. In order to renew this spectacular arboretum SPU has begun to transplant newer species understanding that trees do not last forever even with careful management and that this precious resource will need to be renewed. SPUs current landscape partners are Northwest Landscape Services and Washington Tree Service.
