Classroom helpers needed for bilingual summer school

The Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center needs volunteers to work as classroom assistants and tutors with our math and literacy classes, and to administer and correct entrance and exit exams.

Classes run from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at Franklin High School – 3010 S Mount Baker Blvd. Seattle WA 98144.

There are also volunteer opportunities with after-school activities: an ESL driver's training class (no behind-the-wheel!) and "Discover Seattle", in which students research and then visit places all over the city. After-school programs run from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Help high school youth put feet to their faith

The Evangelical Covenant Church and their North Pacific Conference will provide high school youth with a look into the many areas of justice.

Feet 2 Faith is a 5-day, August 6-11, youth and justice conference engaging teaching and experiences on world issues, immigration and refugees, environmental justice, racial justice and homelessness.

If you would like to volunteer your time, interest or leadership for this opportunity, please contact Caenisha Warren, (warrec@spu.edu) or 206-378-5403.

Environmental Non-profit needs Information Management help!

People for Puget Sound has recently upgraded to a state-of-the-art information system and needs your help to get their data transfered into the new structure.

This position will be based in the People for Puget Sound's downtown Seattle office. It is an unpaid position but an excellent opportunity for experience in a nonprofit. Educational credit is an option.

To apply, submit a volunteer-application-form. For questions, contact Mary Beth Dols (mbdols@ pugetsound.org).

Childcare, plus a gym membership

Rainier Health and Fitness, a community ministry of Urban Impact, seeks volunteers to help with childcare while parents work out.

The children are a delight to work with and need supervision from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Volunteers who serve at least once per week will receive a free gym membership.

For more information, contact Miyuki Bigelow, mbigelow@rainierhealth.com or (206) 725-0279.

Walk for Rice!

Asian Counseling and Referral Service will hold its annual Walk for Rice, a 2.5 mile run/walk at Seward Park on Saturday, June 21, 2008, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser to enable ACRS to buy rice and provide support services for the ACRS food bank.

To provide volunteer help or form a participant team, contact Melinda Mizuta at (206) 774-2460.

Anything you can do would be a huge help and greatly appreciated by the 40 familes we serve each week
