Urban Roots: Summer Leadership Institute
Urban Roots is a summer leadership institute for emerging high school-age leaders who want to explore their identity, purpose, and environment as they embrace the challenge of servant-leadership in their communities.
Through dialogue, youth are encouraged to think communally while practicing the skills, values, and philosophies necessary to become urban and global leaders.
Focusing on faith, community, and leadership, students realize the value of such cultural norms as high expectations, thinking critically, and healthy community in their own contexts.
As students’ thinking is transformed we offer a safe space and encouragement toward action when they ask, “Now what?”
Urban Roots is facilitated in collaboration with Union Gospel Mission Youth Reach Out Center, Urban Impact, and local Christian Community Development Association churches.
Pastors and Layleaders
Youth ministers, pastors, and leaders are also invited and encouraged to attend Urban Roots (with or without youth) and explore the possibility of receiving training in this model of leadership development.
