Link to an Article in EBSCO | Link to an Article in ProQuest  | Off-campus access to Article

Creating links to specific articles using durable linking:

You may create links to specific articles in EBSCO and ProQuest, however the URLs in the browser address box are specific to your particular session.  To get a "durable/persistent link,"  one that others may click on to access the article, you must obtain the correct link.  Below are the instructions for obtaining links in EBSCO and ProQuest brand databases.

For a link to work from off-campus, it must include the information for our proxy server, this is what prompts the system to request name, barcode and PIN to authenticate users from off-campus.  If you obtain your link while searching an SPU database this proxy information should already be part of the URL.  However you may want to double-check  the URL by comparing it to examples in the third section of this page: allowing off-campus access to article.

Currently only EBSCO and ProQuest offer durable/persistent linking.

Creating Persistent Links to EBSCOhost Database Articles:

1) Search for the article.
2) Click on the article title so you can look at the article citation and abstract.

3) Scroll down the page, below the citation and abstract, you will see a URL labeled "Persistent Link to this Article."

4) Highlight and copy this URL beginning with the http:// through to the end.  Then you may paste this link into your online course materials.

5) If you email records to yourself you will not have the proxy information for off-campus access.   You must copy the URL while you are accessing the database online.

Creating Durable Links to ProQuest Database Articles:

1) Search for the article.
2) Mark the articles you want to save.
3) Click on the "Marked List" tab at the top of the page.

4) Click on the "My Research Summary" tab

5) From the Research Summary page highlight and copy each URL beginning with the http:// through to the end.  Then you may paste this link into your online course materials.

6) Caution: Do not copy the URL from the citation and abstract page, this URL does not contain the proxy information for off-campus access.

**
Also note ProQuest durable links are only good for 30 days, if you want to use the links for a longer period of time, you may need to redo your search and retrieve new links.

Insuring off-campus access to the link:

Below are the parts of a durable URL that includes our off-campus proxy, Web Access Management Proxy Rewrite:

http://<port>-<target server>.<SPU Library Catalog server>/<rest of URL>

Field Description Action
<port> For the port number enter 0 (zero) you add port
<target server> The address for the target resource.
<SPU Library Catalog server> For the  SPU Library Catalog server the address is: deborah.spu.edu you add server address
<rest of URL> The rest of the URL for the target resource.

For a durable link from EBSCOHost:
