Off-campus access to online databases is available only to current students, faculty and staff of Seattle Pacific University.

AOL and CompuServe and MSN users: click here for special instructions

Remote Access Requirements:

Patron Requirements:

  • SPU ID number is used for authentication, so there is no need to have your SPU ID card (ID cards are needed to check out materials at SPU and other Orbis-Cascade Alliance Libraries).
  • SPU students must be currently registered (for example fall registration insures access over the preceding summer).
  • Excessive fines or lost items can impact remote database access.

Computer Requirements:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 or higher, Netscape 3.x - 6.2 (Netscape 6.0 will not work with our authentication system - use 6.1 or higher)
  • Java and JavaScript enabled in your browser, with cookies enabled.  These are the default settings on you browser.  You will only need to reset them if you have changed your setting in the past.

When you click on one of the database links from off-campus you should see a screen like the image below:

If you do not get this screen  please contact the reference desk at (206) 281-2419 or email reference@spu.edu.

Also if you get this screen but cannot get into the databases there is probably an error in your library patron record.  (For example: your PIN is not correctly set as your birth date.)  Contact the reference or circulation desks to request assistance, see contact numbers in the footer of this webpage.

When calling please be prepared to give some indication of your error message, possible errors include:

  • Sorry, name entered does not match name in record.
  • Invalid PIN.
  • Sorry, cannot locate patron record
  • You are not authorized to view this page - http://403  (forbidden)

Letting us know the error message right away will speed your request for database access.
