Navigating Your Online Course

Once you log into a course site, you will see the navigation area on the left side of the screen. Clicking any of these links/buttons will take you to the corresponding area of the course site. The following table summarizes the most common links/buttons in the navigation area.

Please be aware that an instructor has the ability to modify how the navigation menu appears.

The Announcements area contains updates and reminders that will appear in the main course window each time you click on the link to the course site.

The Course Information area contains general course information, such as a syllabus, schedule and possible project information.

The Staff Information area contains contact and biographical information about the instructor(s) teaching the course.

The Course Documents area is used to hold the majority of information that will be delivered online such as course outlines, handouts, lecture materials, and related readings. This area also holds course assignments, tests, quizzes, and surveys.

The Communication area contains tools to email other class members or view a class roster.  Chat and Virtual Classroom sessions may also be found here.

The Discussion Board is the area where asynchronous conversations take place.

The External Links area lists web sites of related course material.

The Tools area is a place where you may check your grades or edit your personal course homepage.
