Posting Links to Other Web Sites

You can post links to other web sites within your online course. We recommend that if you want to post a whole web page full of links that you create the page in Word and save the document as a web page which can then be posted to your course. To learn more about posting different document formats, click here.

Posting a Link to Another Web Site

  1. Log into your online course site, and go to the Control Panel.
  2. Click on the area (i.e. Course Documents) where you want the link to appear.
  3. Click the Add External Link button.

  4. Enter the following information for the External Link.
The "Name" field should contain the title of the site or page.
The "URL" field should contain the web address. You can copy a web address from your web browser by going to that web page, selecting the web address, choosing Edit >Copy. To paste the URL click where the URL should appear and choose Edit> Paste.

  5. In most cases, check the Smart Text radio button. Use the HTML radio button if you wish to include HTML code in your description. Use the Plain Text radio button if you want the HTML text to appear as is instead of the converted text.
  6. Scroll down and select Yes for "Open in new window." This will help your students distinguish between their online course site and the external web site to which you are giving them a link. Also, click Yes for “Track number of views” This will help you know who has viewed this portion of your course.
