Accessing Your Online Course

Logging into the SPU Blackboard system is a two-step process.

  1. The first step is to log into the main SPU campus computer system called Banner to look up your SPU Email / Blackboard username and choose a password. All students who use the SPU Blackboard system are assigned an SPU email account. The username and password for your SPU email account become the username and password for the SPU Blackboard system.

  2. The second step is to use that username and password to log into the SPU Blackboard system.

Step 1 - Logging into Banner to look up your SPU Email / Blackboard username and choose a password:

  1. Go to www.spu.edu.

  2. From the Online Services dropdown menu (upper, right-hand corner of homepage), select Banner.

  3. For your User ID, enter your SPU ID number.

    Note: If you don't know your SPU 9-digit ID number, you can enter your social security number.

  4. Enter your Banner PIN.

    Note:  If this is your first time using your PIN, it is either your birth date in the form of MMDDYY or the last 6 digits of your SPU ID number. When you log in for the first time, Banner will prompt you to change your PIN to a new number and to create a security question to assist in account access in the event your new PIN is forgotten.

  5. From Banner’s main menu, click Computer Resources Menu (MARS).

  6. Click Manage Your Computer Resources.

  7. The Manage Computer Resources screen provides details on all of the SPU computer accounts and network resources unique to you.

    Scroll down to the section that says Preferred SPU Username. Your Preferred SPU Username will be the username you will use to access SPU Email and Blackboard.

    To set your password, click the Change Password link, and choose a password based on the guidelines shown. That password will now be the password you use to access SPU Email / Blackboard.

Step 2 - Once you have looked up your username and chosen a password, you will log into the SPU Blackboard system by doing the following:

  1. Go to www.spu.edu.

  2. From the Online Services dropdown menu (upper, right-hand corner of homepage), select Blackboard.

  5. After you have logged in, you will see courses in which you are participating listed for you. To view a course, click its link.

Please note: Instructors are responsible for making their course sites available to students. Not all instructors choose to use an online course site. If you do not see a course listed for you, please check first with your instructor to see if he or she plans to use a course site. You are also welcome to contact us with any questions regarding the SPU Blackboard system.
