Nursing Activities, Programs, and Leadership Opportunities
 

All activities open to pre-nursing and nursing students unless indicated.    

Ongoing Programs    

  • Nursing Cadre
    A Cadre that explores the relationship between faith and vocation and examines the implications for patients and nurses.
    Meetings Held: One time a week

  • NAPS: Nursing and PreNursing Student Club
    An ASSP sponsored club. Sponsored events: MS walk, Community Support Activities (sock drive for shelters), spring lunch for all nursing and pre-nursing students
    Club Meetings: Second and Fourth Mondays each month, Marston 316

  • Meet a Nurse
    Opportunity to meet and talk with a practicing nurse from a variety of specialties.
    Sponsored by the Dean of SHS.
    Meetings: Quarterly

Yearly Events    

  • Junior Student Consecration (A program welcoming junior nursing students and their families into the nursing program)
  • Points of Light (A yearly celebration of the accomplishments of students, staff and faculty in the SHS)
  • Nurse Recruiter Day and Career Fair (A time to meet recruiters from area agencies)
  • Transcultural Report (A report by senior nursing students about their study abroad experiences)
  • BSN Graduation and Pinning (A graduation and pinning ceremony for graduating nursing students)

Leadership positions    

  • ASSP Health Sciences Senator
    The School of Health Sciences has one elected representative on ASSP. Check with ASSP for more information.
  • Class Co-Presidents in the Nursing Program
    Two juniors and two seniors are elected each autumn to serve as class co-presidents. Responsibilities include:
    1. Serve as a liaison to the ASSP Health Sciences Senator.
    2. Serve as a liaison to NAPS, the Nursing And Pre-nursing Students club.
    3. Coordinate activities between junior and senior levels.
    4. Assist with student activity committees: Consecration for juniors; Pinning for seniors.
    5. Serve as liaison between SHS and class members upon graduation (Class Captains for Alumni Council)
