Guidelines for applying to Current SPU Students Return the completed Nursing Application to the School of Health Sciences, 3rd floor Marston Hall. Reapplying Students Transfer and Post-baccalaureate Students In order to be considered for entry into the nursing major, students must apply to both the University and the nursing program. The nursing application can be found on the following website Nursing Application. The online university application can be found on the following website Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Transfer students must complete 90 transferrable credits by June 2009. Both applications, official transcripts, course descriptions and recommendations must be received by the Office of Admissions on or before Feb. 15, 2009. You are encouraged to apply early. The Office of Admissions will forward the completed application materials to the School of Health Sciences Lydia Green Nursing Program for final review. Program Transfer Students 1-800-899-1769. Additional Information for All Students: Completeness of the application packet is the responsibility of the applicant. All materials must be submitted together in an 8 1/2 x 11 envelope and received on or before February 15, 2009. Nursing applications are reviewed by the Academic and Student Affairs Committee (ASAC) of the School of Health Sciences. Only completed applications will be reviewed. Applicants will be notified by mail regarding Committee action. Further information about orientation to the nursing program will follow full acceptance into the program in July before the school year begins. After applying to the nursing program, if you complete coursework at institutions other than SPU, please send official transcripts to both Office of Admissions, Suite 115 and the School of Health Sciences Undergraduate Program, Suite 106. In order to begin the Bachelor of Science in nursing program, the following prerequisite courses must be completed. It is strongly recommended that all other general education course work necessary to complete the BS degree be completed prior to beginning the nursing program or in the summer quarters. Prerequisite courses: Inorganic/General Chemistry CHM 1211 Organic Biological Chemistry CHM 1330 Anatomy BIO 2129 Physiology BIO 2130 Microbiology BIO 3351 (All science courses should include a lab)
General Psychology PSY 1180 Lifespan Psychology PSY 2470 Human Nutrition FCS 3340 or BIO 1100 Basic Statistics MAT 1360 or HSC 4044 All transfer work must be directly transferable to the equivalent SPU course. Completed application materials for the nursing program must include: (1) application to the School of Health Sciences, (2) Professional Recommendation Form (sealed) (3) official transcripts (sealed) for pre-requisite coursework other than SPU and (4) course descriptions for each prerequisite course taken (other than SPU) and (5) Transfer and post-baccalaureate students must also submit University application and recommendations (due Feb. 15, 2009). All acceptances are contingent on completion of the prerequisite courses by the end of Spring quarter of the year prior to beginning nursing courses. The preferred GPA in these courses is 3.0 or above (2.75 minimum) with no course less than a “C” grade (anything less than 2.0 is not acceptable). Attainment of the preferred GPA standards does not guarantee admission to a major, as the total number of admissions may be limited by capacity. Four prerequisite courses must be completed by the application due date.
