Influenza Resources
As the flu season arrives, students, faculty, and staff may want to take note of these helpful resources. Keep them on hand for yourself. Share them with friends and family.
Flu Kits for Students
- Disposable thermometer
- Acetominophen (Tylenol)
- Ibuprofen (Advil)
- Gatorade, or similar fluid (not diet)
- Clear soda (not diet)
- Chicken soup or broth, or soup of choice
- Tissues
- Hand sanitizer
- Clorox, or similar wipes for cleaning surfaces
What Should I Eat If I'm Sick With the Flu?
Make sure you drink 12 ounces of fluid per hour while you are awake.
If you're nauseated or vomiting, drink clear liquids for 24 hours such as the following:
- Gatorade or similar fluid
- Clear soda (sprite, ginger ale, 7-UP etc.)
- Jello
- Clear juice like apple (no citrus juice)
- Chicken or beef broth
- Tea
If you have no nausea or vomiting, add these items to the fluids above choices:
- Boiled or poached egg
- Soups
- Rice
- Potatoes
- Cooked oatmeal or Cream of Wheat
- Plain, non-grainy breads
- Bananas
But avoid these foods:
- Milk or milk products
- Butter, oils, fats
- Fried foods
- Coffee, cola, cocoa
- Citrus juice
- Spicy foods
Eat small amounts at more frequent intervals: Don’t overeat!
