Young Nicholas gets into hot water when he invents an imaginary creature called Dogbrain to blame for his bad behavior. When Dogbrain materializes and wreaks havoc in the family, Nicholas and his brother are forced into the night-time streets of the city where they learn how they have the power to keep the bad and the good within them, under their own control.
