Theory and Literature are central to the studies of a music major. The curriculum introduces and develops the many skills and concepts to become an outstanding and well-rounded musician. The curriculum is designed in a helix model- a comprehensive design interrelating all these fundamentals. Each musicianship course incorporates not just music theory, but also ear training, sight-singing, dictation, counterpoint, movement, improvisation, conducting, keyboarding and music technology.

SPU offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Music and an empasis in Theory and Literature. For degree specifics, please refer to the Degree Program portion of the website or catalogue.
