Keyboard studies are an essential part of the curriculum for every music student at SPU, and basic keyboard proficiency is required of all music majors.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Music is offered with either of the following keyboard emphases:

Piano Performance/Pedagogy

Pipe Organ Performance

For specifics on the degree program, please visit the Music Performance Emphasis in the Degree Programs section of this site.

Individual instruction in both jazz and traditional studies is by audition only for qualified music majors, music minors, and music scholarship recipients. Students receive weekly lessons from faculty who are active performers.

Group keyboard instruction (beginning and intermediate levels) is also offered in our Yamaha piano lab. These classes are primarily for non-music majors. They also enable vocal and instrumental music majors to meet basic keyboard proficiency expectations, required of all music majors.

Our music department is part of a Yamaha loan program which supplies new pianos each year for student and faculty use.
