Notes

In the 1978-1979 school year, the Oratorio Society was renamed the Choral Society. Hubert Wash directed the group in addition to the Concert Choir.

The Concert Choir enjoyed an active performance season. On November 10, they presented a concert for Parents' Day. On December 1, they assisted in the Fine Arts Christmas Chapel with the Women's Ensemble and the Chamber Singers. They presented a Christmas concert with the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble on December 3. On February 15, they shared a concert with the Symphony Orchestra at the University Church; Wayne Johnson, pianist. Their tour, from March 14-18, took them through Western Washington and Canada.
1978-1979 Repertoire

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble presented a concert on November 30 with the SPU Jazz Ensemble.

The Choral Society presented two major concerts during the year. The first was a Christmas concert with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and a string and flute ensemble. Martin Behnke conducted the program and the Wind Ensemble performed pieces as well. The concert featured the "Midnight Mass for Christmas" by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Soloists were Mary Beth Baker, Lori Hilton, Diane Short, Melanie Tuttle, Dawn Jensen, Rebecca Johnson, Steven Gallagher, Kyle McElfresh, John Butler, and Jeffrey Magaro. Lester Groom and Halle Wash assisted as accompanists. On April 22, the Society presented Mendelssohn's "Hymn of Praise" at First Presbyterian Church. Marilyn Chapman accompanied on organ and Halle Wash on piano. Soloists were Yvonne Haight, soprano; Diane Short, soprano; and John Hendrix, tenor.
