Notes

Hubert Wash was acting director of the School of Music in the 1977-1978 school year. He conducted the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers as well. Philip Mack directed the Oratorio Society.

The Concert Choir's performance season included the Autumn Concert on November 4 with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Symphonic Orchestra. The Concert Choir presented a program on April 13 at University Church and shared a Spring Concert with the Chamber Singes and Symphonic Wind Ensemble on May 18. The Choir's annual tour took them to Wenatchee, Spokane, Missoula, Sheridan, WY, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Portland from March 15-26.
1977-1978 Repertoire

A Vocal Jazz Ensemble also enjoyed a successful year which featured a performance on May 23 shared with the Clackamas Community College Jazz Ensemble and the SPU Jazz Ensemble.

The Oratorio Society joined forces with the Concert Choir and Symphonic Wind Ensemble for their fall concert on November 20, 1977 at the Seattle Opera House. The program, "Oratorio Festival," featured pieces by the Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble as well as "The Christmas Story" by Ron Nelson. This work was accompanied by the Brass and Percussion Ensemble and JoAnn Stremler on organ. George Scranton narrated. Soloist was Hubert Wash, baritone. On May 21, 1978, the Society presented Mendelssohn's "St. Paul" with Marcile Mack on piano and Rebecca Groom on organ. Soloists were Fausta Chiu, soprano; Shelley Philibosian, alto; John Hendrix, tenor; Jon Ellis, tenor; Craig Jensen, bass; and Dan Engbretson, bass.
