Notes

In the 1939-1940 school year, Marion Joy Stoll also taught courses in public school music in addition to her duties as director of A Cappella Choir and the College Chorus. The College Band was directed by Jerry Walker and the College Orchestra was directed by Miss Dorothy Gilmore.

The A Cappella Choir performed in nearby cities and experienced two extended tours. In March they performed nine concerts in five days traveling to Eastern Washington. In April they traveled through Oregon and Southwest Washington. From the Cascade: " Concert music chosen to portray the life of Christ. From a broad field of well known classics and hymns of the Church. A marked spiritual emphasis was introduced into each concert through individual testimonies and spontaneous choruses by the members."

The College Chorus presented three major concerts during the year. On December 13 they performed the "Messiah" with soloists Patricia Schage, soprano; Elva Morton, soprano; Mildred Davidson, alto; William Murphy, tenor. Their Winter Quarter concert included "The Pilgrims' Chorus," "Hail, Bright Abode" (from Wagner's "Tannhauser") and "The Campbells are Coming" (a traditional song from Scotland arranged by Alfred Whitehead). "Tales of Vienna Forest" by Strauss, "We Behold His Glory" by Clokey, and "The Heavens are Telling" by Haydn were featured in their Spring Quarter concert. They contributed to the Fall Revival by presenting sacred music for one of the services and also performed at Commencement.

Other active groups were the Victory Quartet, the Clarion Quartet and the Girls' Glee Club, which performed religious and secular music.
