Notes

The School of Music offered a major in music for the first time in the 1938-1939 school year. Mabel Jones Moyer was head of the department. The School of Music was also in charge of chapel programs on Wednesdays.

A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Marion Joy Stoll, traveled throughout Washington and British Columbia on a concert tour. This year they enjoyed new choir robes.

The College Chorus, also directed by Miss Stoll, gave a number of performances during the year. On December 14, they performed the "Messiah" with soloists Alida Hamel, Elva Morton, Harold Best and Glen Scarvie. Their spring concert held in April at Swedish Tabernacle featured "The Holy City" by Gaul with soloist Roald Amundsen. Harold Best directed the performance in the absence of Miss Stoll. In their Annual Recital at the end of the year, they presented several shorter numbers including "The Heavens are Telling" by Haydn. Professor Barnard served as accompanist for the chorus.

The Girls' Glee Club performed at "various religious and community enterprises" including morning chapel, University Presbyterian Church and over the radio.

The Victory Quartet made a trip to Victoria, B.C., and sang on the "Fellowship Hour" each Sunday morning with Professor Warren as narrator and Professor Barnard as organist. The Grace Trio also sang at many churches and on the air.
