Notes

Marion Joy Stoll continued as director of the College Chorus and A Cappella Choir in the 1937-38 school year. Mabel Jones Moyer was the director of the department. Francis Edmund Barnard joined the faculty as Associate Professor of Piano, Organ and Music Theory.

The A Cappella Choir expanded their performance schedule. In November, the group presented a concert with the orchestra. They also went out on weekend tours- to Bellingham High School and Bellingham Free Methodist Church, as well as trips to Mount Vernon, Everett, Wenatchee, Yakima and Celia. A Cappella Choir also performed at Franklin High School (Seattle) in December and, later in the year, at the Choral Festival Concert of the Washington State Federation of Music Clubs. The choir's literature included:
"Zek'l Saw De Wheel" arr. Joseph Clokey
"Listen to the Mocking Bird" arr. Joseph Clokey
"The Camp Meeting Song" arr. Joseph Clokey
     "Bless the Lord" by Ivanoff
     "Born Today" by Sweelinck
"Rock of Ages" arr. Roald Amundsen (an S.P.C. student)
The College Chorus sang the "Messiah" just before Christmas vacation. Other concerts that year presented the cantata "The Coming of the King" by Dudley Buck and, in their spring concert, numbers by Schubert and Strauss including "The Omnipotence," "The Serenade," and "The Tales of the Vienna Woods." Professor Barnard accompanied. The chorus concerts were held at the College Church and the Swedish Tabernacle.

During the second semester, each Wednesday assembly was given to the music department. Over the course of the term, the A Cappella Choir, the quartets, the Girls' Glee Club, String Trio were featured as well as vocal and piano solos.
