Concert Choir at Seattle Pacific University.... This 70 voice ensemble is the principal choir of the five choral groups at SPU. The students rehearse three days each week during the school year and represent the diversity of majors across the campus- from among such interests as music, education, business, religion, and the many liberal arts. Concert Choir's history goes back to the first year of the school's existence, making it one of the longest established organizations on campus. A history of the choir can be seen at the SPU Choral History and Alumni area. The choir strives to express meaning through their music- integrating faith and learning, reflected through performance of unaccompanied sacred music in their annual tour. The choir also prepares large scale accompanied works, such as recent performances of the Bernstein “Chichester Psalms”, the Duruflé “Requiem” and the Brahms “Requiem”. Concert Choir performs at Music Department ensemble concerts on campus during the school year and regularly contributes music at campus functions. The choir is recognized regionally and nationally for their excellence. The Concert Choir was invited to perform at the 1998 Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) Convention, the 2000 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Northwestern Convention, the 2001 Northwest Convention of the National Music Educators Conference (MENC) and the 2001 ACDA National Convention, one of the highest levels of recognition for a university choir. The choir also regularly issues recordings of their music.
An
audition is required for membership.
