Survey of Popular Music Group Project
|
| |
|
I. DESCRIPTION
All students will participate in a project on a selected topic related to popular music.
The class will be divided into 12 groups, each with 5 students.
Each group will discuss and decide upon a topic.
Each group will assign portions of the project to members.
Each group will complete the project and present it in class (during the last few class sessions).
|
| |
|
II. TOPIC
The topic is of your choice, but is to be approved by the instructor.
On the form available below, please identify your group's topic and turn it in to the instructor by October 18.
Guidelines for choosing a good topic:
1. Consider possible resources.
2. Consider innovation of topic.
- topics about current pop artists are less than innovative and lack perspective.
3. Consider if topic can be presented in an interesting manner.
4. Consider possibilities of something other than the last 50 years.

|
III. FORMAT
The format can be anything you desire. Past projects have been:
-A paper with a reading in class (try to be more creative, it counts!).
-A collage of artifacts illustrating an important aspect(s) of popular music accompanied with a description of the contents (i.e., popular culture relating to music)
-A collection of articles or information about a style/artist/topic with a conclusion of the idea(s) researched.
-A collection of recordings of a particular style or artist accompanied with a description of the importance of this style/artist and a description of the contents of tape (what it is and why it was included)
-A game for the class designed to emphasize a particular style or artist(s), etc.
-Use your imagination!
