_____ C. Dorr Demaray Scholarship: Awarded to serious-minded and spiritually sensitive students, with a preference given to those who are pursuing an English major. Dr. Demaray, who served as President of SPU from 1959 to 1968, maintained a life-long passion for the study of English literature.

_____ Jean Allen Hanawalt Scholarship: Awarded to a senior English major who exemplifies the qualities and values of Professor Hanawalt, including dedication to literature both for itself and as a means of moral growth, proficiency as a scholar and writer, a keen mind and a compassionate heart, and commitment to social justice and the welfare of all persons.
