It is worth mentioning, for future reference, that the
creative power which bubbles so pleasantly in beginning
a new book quiets down after a time, and one goes on more
steadily. Doubts creep in. Then one becomes resigned. Determination
not to give in, and the sense of an impending shape keep
one at it more than anything.
--Virginia Woolf
The
second major area of faculty responsibility at SPU is scholarship,
which is inherently connected to teaching. The University
encourages, supports, and rewards four distinct yet overlapping
types of scholarship: the scholarship of discovery, the scholarship
of teaching, the scholarship of application, and the scholarship
of synthesis.
The
Center administers a number of internally funded grants as
well as provides information concerning some external grants.
