Seattle Pacific
University is committed to supporting new faculty members
in their progress toward tenure, both by helping them develop
as teacher-scholars and by welcoming them into the community.
Research into mentoring suggests that junior faculty members
need a mentoring mosaic, a collection of advisors and experiences
that address different needs. The Center's mentoring program
has three components.
Additional
mentoring throughout the initial years of appointment is provided
by department chairs. When applying for tenure, faculty will
consult with their chairs to locate an appropriate mentor
from outside the department to assist with the tenure process.
Chairs are responsible to make this appointment, but the faculty
member is free to decline to work with a Tenure Mentor.
