Faculty Grants in Vocation and Theology

The Center for Scholarship and Faculty Development awards up to $18,000 in Faculty Grants in Vocation and Theology each year to provide support for SPU faculty to research, write, and develop curriculum related to the theological exploration of vocation.

2007 Faculty Grants for the Theological Exploration of Vocation:

Bev Wilson, Associate Professor of Graduate Psychology

“Mothers and Grandmothers as Agents of Children’s Religious Socialization:  An Investigation of a ‘Divine Call,’ Mechanisms of Transmissions and Child Outcomes.”  This will fund a four-scholar study project that will investigate the degree to which  mothers and grandmothers feel called to be socializing agents in the religious development of their children and grandchildren, the mechanisms by which they carry this out, and the outcomes in their children.

Baine Craft, Associate Professor of Psychology 

"Psychology as Vocation." This grant will fund development of a new required course in undergraduate psychology that would provide students with a guided experience in exploring different careers in psychology.  It would also focus on what it means to be called as a person of Christian faith to serve in the field of psychology.
