The
Gates Cambridge Scholarships
Established
in October 2000 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this
program creates in perpetuity an international scholarship program
to enable outstanding graduate students from outside the United
Kingdom to study at the University of Cambridge.
Awards:
The
award covers the full cost of study at Cambridge for a single
person - namely, all approved university and college tuition fees,
a maintenance allowance, a further discretionary allowance for
study-related activities, and one return economy airfare between
the U.K. and the scholar's normal country of residence.
Selection criteria:
- Intellectual
ability.
- Leadership
capacity.
- The scholar's
desire to use their knowledge to contribute to society throughout
the world by providing service to their communities and applying
their talents and knowledge to improve the lives of others.
Eligibility:
- Applicants
may come from any country in the world except the United Kingdom.
- Under the
age of thirty.
- Approved
courses of study are full-time residential courses of study
are research leading to the Ph.D. degree,
one year post-graduate courses, second Bachelor degree, or MMBChir
in Clinical Studies.
- The
Scholarship may only be awarded to a student who has been admitted
to Cambridge through the University's normal academic procedures.
- Candidates
must have, or expect to obtain before beginning study in Cambridge,
an Honors Bachelor Degree, or its equivalent from a recognized
university.
- Candidates
expected to have excellent transcripts with high GPA scores
showing evidence of sustained achievement.
- Non-native
speakers of English are required to provide the results of an
English language test and to meet the minimum standard of proficiency
required for admission to Cambridge.
Application
deadlines depend on your course of study but are generally around
October 15, 2007.
