Computer Science Degree Information

The degree programs in Computer Science at Seattle Pacific University emphasize the skills needed to analyze problems, design solutions, code and implement the computer related parts, thoroughly test and debug the system, and maintain the system as the requirements of the job change. Courses in ethics, writing, teamwork, analysis of algorithms, and database design provide just a few of the tools that will enable the graduate to succeed in the workplace.

The liberal arts focus of Seattle Pacific University gives our graduates the work place skills to relate well with others on the job. Courses in art and history provide a broad background, and an interesting person to talk with at a coffee break. Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science degree requires a total of 106 credits in major specific courses and related disciplines. Students studying for the BS Degree in Computer Science will take a year of Physics, a year of Calculus and two courses in Electrical Engineering. In addition, the required liberal arts courses combine to provide a well-rounded education, enabling you to better understand your own experiences and giving you an appreciation for other groups of people. Since one of the most important skills in the Computer Science workplace is the ability to work with others (in addition to being competent), the B.S. degree represents a well-rounded preparation for a successful career.

A second strength of the BS degree is that it will better prepare you for graduate study in Computer Science. This comes from the depth of the major and the extended scientific background, all of which provide a solid foundation on which to start graduate school.

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science degree at Seattle Pacific University combines a strong background in Computer Science with a focus in an application area that makes a graduate eminently employable. The B.A. degree requires a student to select an application area to emphasize, ranging from Business and Information Systems applications to computer system and systems programming areas. It requires between 83-85 credits in Computer Science and related disciplines (depending on option), and provides both breadth and depth for the skills needed to succeed in Computer Science in today's world.

Minor in Computer Science

Students admitted to any Major Degree program at Seattle Pacific University are eligible to complete a Minor in Computer Science.

The specific University wide requirements are:
• You must be working toward a major at the same time.
• A minor requires a minimum of 30 credits and less than or equal to 45 credits.
• At least 15 of the credits must be earned in courses numbered 3000-4999.
• Courses graded P or below C- do not count toward a minor.
• You must apply for and be accepted to the minor field of study.
• The date of the student Minor application will determine the specific catalog requirements.
