Robert M. Curley Men's Rowing Endowment

Seattle Pacific University

September 2008

We are indeed blessed as a program and very pleased to announce the addition of the Robert M. Curley Men's Rowing Endowment to our family of endowments for men's crew at Seattle Pacific. This estate gift from Bob Curley, himself a Cal Berkeley rower in collge, later became a staunch supporter of Seattle Pacific University, primarily through activities with the Corporate Foundation Task Force, as a University Fellow, and as an active supporter of the School of Business and Economics. Bob Curley passed away in December 2006 after a very rich life that included a tremendous faith and family, many successful business ventures, and incredible philanthropic work. Bob's expressed desire was that the young men of Seattle Pacific Men's Crew be supported through endowment, knowing first-hand the intense character formation rowing offers and its ability to transform the lives of young men towards excellence through discipline, sacrifice, and tenacity. Bob Curley never had any direct relationship with the SPU rowing program itself, making this endowment an amazing example of faith on his part and a testament to the values he held regarding collegiate rowing and his philosophy of holistic excellence through Christian athletics.

Though open in its designated purpose, the Curley Endowment will help men's crew take that next step towards funding men's operations and even scholarships as we enter the next generation of rowing at Seattle Pacific. Many thanks go specifically to Bob's wife Jann Curley who was responsible for ensuring that his wishes for an SPU men's crew endowment were fulfilled. Jann is to be considered hereafter a special Friend of SPU Rowing, a blessing to our humble cause, and always welcome at our gatherings.
