 DISSERTATION RESEARCH ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Designed new type of fluorescent ligand that binds to lanthanide metals. Created lanthanide metal complexes with a photoluminescence and electroluminescence. Synthesized ligands that incorporate polycyclic aromatic compounds and dendritic functionality for use as a light harvesting material.

Studied the effect of curricular changes on general chemistry by examining the effect of early introduction of Bonding Theory/Lewis Structures in General Chemistry. Created and implemented new inquiry based laboratory materials for use in the General Chemistry Curriculum. Studied the effect of these materials on student performance and retention.

Made new type of interpenetrating polymer network consisting of Poly-Vinyl Pyridine and Poly-Phenylene Oxide that showed no phase separation and high thermal stability.
