Lilly Service Internship Fund Recipients!
Emily is interning with The SOLD Project, a grassroots organization that seeks to raise awareness about and put an end to child prostitution in Thailand by partnering with Christian churches willing to stand against this billion dollar industry. The project works with local partners to identify and liberate Thai boys and girls from forced sexual servitude, and raises awareness about the issue and funds to support their work. Emily will assist in planning and implementing a SOLD documentary film screening at SPU on February 14 for Seattle area churches and partners, among other projects. Emily is a junior majoring in Individual and Family Development.
Having interned with Seattle Children’s Theatre this past summer, Ben applied to and was accepted into the Drama School Apprentice program at SCT for Winter quarter. Ben will work closely with Seattle Children’s Theatre faculty to teach and eventually to create curriculum for Seattle area children on participatory theatre education and theatre arts training. With a passion for helping children gain access to theatre arts and to explore their creative gifts, Ben’s goal is to become a professional teaching artist. Ben is a junior in Theatre Education with a minor in English Literature and working toward teaching certification in both Theatre and English.

The SPU Career Development Center, together with the Lilly SERVE grant, funds service/non-profit, unpaid internships during winter, spring and summer quarters. Students receive a stipend of $1000 (winter & spring quarters) or $2000 (summer quarter). This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain relevant job experience and skills, explore career and vocational interests and begin to develop a network within the non-profit sector.
